Running
2023:
(8/19 check-in) I built up my ability to maintain a good pace for a long period of time over the course of 2023. By mid-July, I was running a half marathon each Wednesday and 10-12 miles throughout the week. I had signed up for a marathon that is taking place today, but I injured myself rock climbing a few weeks ago (sprained ankle), limiting my ability to train.
(2/6 check-in) In the second half of Jan I started training again. I’m not training for anything in particular, but I like the type of person I’m made into by getting out early in the morning and feeling miserable for a while - especially in SLC where it’s icy, dark, and sub 10 degrees Fahrenheit many mornings. I’m growing thicker skin.
I’m running 13 miles a week at an average of 9:30 miles.
2022:
In October I decided I was going to run a marathon before Dec 16th. I ran in two weeks more than I ever had previously and fractured my foot.
I was stuck in a boot for 3 weeks while living in New Orleans. Lesson learned - listen to the body, ramp up slower, it’s not just a mental game.
I recover and did some slower runs while staying with my family in Portland in December.
2016:
I ran track and field & cross country for a small, private Christian school in Beaverton, Oregon in my sophomore year. I wasn’t very talented and had never really run before, but enjoyed pushing myself. Here were my PRs:
200m - 0:30.44
400m - 1:09.24
1500m - 5:36.03
3000m - 12:25.87
1.8 miles - 11:04
5K - 20:22.9
